Dr. Upendra Parvathaneni
Dr. Upendra Parvathaneni, MD has extensive expertise in managing MCCs with the use of radiation therapy.
Dr. Parvathaneni’s clinical practice is based at the University of Washington and he works very closely with us on the majority of MCC cases. In some cases, patients are treated by him in Seattle, and in other cases, he consults with the patient’s radiation oncologist closer to home to ensure the best possible management for their cancer. Dr. Parvathaneni joined the UW faculty in August 2006 and is an Associate Professor in the department of Radiation Oncology. He has board-certification in Radiation Oncology from Australia and U.S.A. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. Dr. Parvathaneni specializes in treating Head and neck tumors, Merkel cell and skin cancers, and salivary gland tumors. His research interests focus on improving outcomes of patients with Merkel cell carcinoma. In particular, he combines various types of radiotherapy (including neutron therapy) with immunotherapy and create synergy to stimulate the immune system. He also explores novel fractionation regimens such as using a single fraction of radiotherapy to treat Merkel call cancer.
